Army Corps of Engineers Claims Proposed Mining Law Will Require Years For Approvals

After Republican legislators unveiled their proposed new iron mining legislation earlier this week, Democratic state senator Tim Cullen announced that the Army Corps of Engineers had told him that their reading of the proposed new law indicated that their approval process might take years. The Corps approval is required due to the proposed mine site location near Lake Superior and its impact on federal wetlands.
