Karen McKim has been an election integrity activist for the past five years, has observed multiple hand counts, post-election audits, and voting machine tests, and has testified at GAB/WEC, legislative, and county hearings. She led the effort that succeeded in getting the state elections agency to acknowledge that local election clerks can access sealed ballot bags for the purpose of verifying voting-machine output as soon as the day following the election. She ran for Dane county clerk in 2016, on a platform of election integrity, and was among the organizers of the recount. She is currently working with Jill Stein’s team to publicize the recount’s findings and to encourage the public to use them to improve our elections. After receiving her master’s degree in public administration from the UW LaFollette Institute, McKim served 30 years in state government, working for Wisconsin Supreme Court and the Legislative Audit Bureau.

Appearing in this video: Raging Grannies of Madison; Jill Karofsky / Marilyn Townsend - candidates for Dane County Circuit Judge; and Lisa Graves is the Executive Director of the Center for Media and Democracy, in Madison. CMD has participated in past Festivals and is always a welcome addition! Lisa’s skill as a researcher, legal analyst, and coordinator ensure that the flow of corporate money into such groups as the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) and the State Policy Network does not remain hidden. In addition, CMD researchers provide assistance for documentary film producers to ensure accuracy. One of their works ("13th") was nominated for “Best Documentary Film 2016.” Lisa was the “wrap-up” speaker and was also the speaker at the Old Feed Mill dinner after the Festival.
