Vigil in Protest Against the Penokee Iron Mine at State Capitol 2-26-2013

Members of the Madison Action for Mining Alternatives and other southern Wisconsin environmentalists will be joined by concerned citizens from the Northland to hold a peaceful vigil in advance of the Senate vote on SB 1, the bill written largely by the mining firm seeking to create the worlds largest open pit taconite (iron) mine in the U.S. in Ashland and Iron counties Wisconsin.

    The Anti Mining Vigil is being held the night before the Senate votes on SB 1 (the Senate version of the bill that guts environmental protection for areas downstream of iron mines, including the Bad River watershed.)
