Progressive Partners Regional Meeting

Progressive Partners is a networking effort that supports and facilitates coordination, communication, and collaboration among autonomous community-based progressive grassroots groups and their allies. The most recent meeting was in Middleton last August.

9:30 – 10:00 Registration No charge, but voluntary donations to defray costs will be appreciated.

10:00 – 11:00 Community Grassroots Groups of the Second Congressional District

Introduction of representatives from each independent community grassroots group. Some groups will share information about specific activities that have been particularly successful or challenging for them.

11:00 – 12:00 Wisconsin Grassroots Network resources

Nate Timm will describe statewide WGN strategy, and Bob Crego will share information about Wisconsin Grassroots Network’s database, website, and other resources and plans to support grassroots groups and networking for effective action. The facility has wireless Internet. Bring your laptop if you have one, so that you can follow along, bookmark pages, etc.

12:00 – 1:00 Pot Luck Lunch

12:45 Sing along

Solidarity Singers and Learning Curve musicians will lead a sing-along to benefit the First Amendment Protection Fund.

1:00 – 3:00 Cutting the issues and building our power

With presentation and small group work, Randy Stoecker, community extension specialist at the UW-Madison Dept of Community and Environmental Sociology, will lead a workshop focusing on the skills of “cutting an issue” in a way most likely to increase a grassroots group’s power, and recruiting and retaining members. 3:00 – 4:00 Updates, networking and planning

After short updates on projects begun at that August Progressive Partners meeting, we are leaving the final hour unstructured in the expectation that the day’s activities and discussions will have sparked ideas, connections, and interests that participants will want to explore further with each other, either in small groups or as a whole. Please plan to stay for this final hour our networking and planning!
